In 1998, the internet was becoming more accessible to the general public, although most people still connected via dial-up, which was slow and not always reliable. The idea of having a constant, high-speed connection was still a few years away. It was during this time that we launched FreeDict as a website designed to be accessible across different platforms. To cater to the needs of Windows users, we also developed a downloadable offline program specifically for Windows 98.
As technology advanced and newer versions of Windows were released, we eventually decided to discontinue support for the offline version, recognizing that maintaining it was no longer feasible. The landscape of internet usage continued to evolve, and with the advent of smartphones, we saw an opportunity to expand FreeDict's reach. This led us to create a separate mobile version of the website, ensuring that users could access FreeDict on the go.
Recently, we've taken a significant step forward by integrating both the desktop and mobile versions into a single, unified platform. We believe this will provide a more seamless experience for all our users, whether they are on a desktop or a mobile device. We hope this update meets everyone's needs and enhances their experience with FreeDict. We always welcome feedback, so please don't hesitate to share your thoughts with us.
